The fact that all we have to do to get water is turn a tap is really quite amazing. The journey our drinking water takes is a long one. For people living in urban areas, it all starts at a water treatment facility. Water, derived from a lake or river, sometimes underground, sometimes miles away, is chemically treated and filtered. From there, it is sent through miles of pipes that have been in place for quite awhile, finally arriving at your tap. It's needless to say that, at the end of line, what you get isn't 100% pure H2-O. For this reason, many people have decided that a water filter is right for them. No matter what type of water filter system you employ, it will reduce or eliminate many of the contaminants that are all too common in tap water today. This reduction of contaminants not only makes your water safer to drink, but it makes it taste and even smell much better. There are various types of filters you could choose to invest in. Among the most common is the 'jug' or container type of water filter. This type of filter works as you pour your tap water into the jug. It then drips through a filter that catches things such as bacteria, heavy metals, chlorine and even dissolved biological material. Some people, though, find that refilling that container every time they need water to be a little on the time consuming side, especially if they enjoy cooking with filtered water. Water filter systems that are becoming increasingly popular include bench-top and plumbed-in water filters. Both of these types of filters make it so the water that comes out of your kitchen faucet is already filtered. This 'on-demand' filter system is the perfect solution for busy households that require a higher amount of filtered water than a container water filter can provide. Water supply centers do have minimum contaminant standards that they must adhere to, but many people find that these standards just don't cut it when it comes to something that they have to ingest every single day. Plus, many contaminants are introduced to your water long after it leaves a treatment center. A high amount of them may even be coming from the plumbing that's in your house. Indeed, this is why people all over the world are turning to commercially available water filters to keep their families safe and their water tasting fresh and crisp. Summary: Water supply centers do have minimum contaminant standards that they must adhere to, but many people find that these standards just don't cut it when it comes to something that they have to ingest a lot of every single day. Thus, the true importance of a water filter becomes apparent.
