The thermostat is a critical component for the air conditioner as it controls what the temperature of the room would be. This it does by controlling the flow of heat energy into or out of the system. Every air conditioner comes with a thermostat which is either manually operated or can be programmed to work automatically. Get the proper settings to regulate the temperature to your needs. You should have a proper understanding of how to use the thermostat of your air conditioner more effectively. You can significantly save on electricity by properly adjusting the settings of your thermostat. As amazing as it may sound you can actually save seven to ten percent of the cooling costs in a season for every degree you raise the setting of your thermostat. The ideal temperature to set your thermostat is at 78 degree Fahrenheit or anything higher than that. You can actually use the ceiling fan by adjusting the air conditioner thermostat at such levels and enjoy even more comfort. At the end of the day you have better cooling in your rooms and you pay less for that than you were doing previously. If you are using a central air conditioning system, you would know that it comes with two fan settings - 'on' and 'auto'. If you have the unit set at 'on' then the fan will run continuously no matter if the cooling cycle is on or off. However, having it in 'auto' position will have the fan working only during the cooling cycles. Suppose, your central air conditioning works for the entire day, even then it is only about 50% of the time that the cooling cycle will be operative. So for the other 12 hours of the day, the fan if in 'auto' mode will not be working. However if it is turned to the 'on' mode, it will keep on operating. The result would be more electric onsumption and the difference at the end of the month would be about $25. That is a lot of money you wither choose to save or just let go to waste. In fact having the fan continuously on also is uncomfortable as the humid air sucked in prior while the cooling circle is on, is circulated back to the room when the fan works alone. These facts show that having the thermostat at the right settings helps you to save quite a few bucks.
