The nature of the British aerospace industry at present is as dynamic as it has ever been. Companies by the hundreds have opened over the last two decades in order to take advantage of increased venture funding and a commitment to further aerospace innovations. Aerospace professionals and those interested in a job within the industry should understand the dynamic nature of the industry before applying for positions. In general, there is something to meet every professional’s needs in the British aerospace industry. Perhaps the most famous aerospace company in the United Kingdom, and one of the biggest in the world, is Airbus. Airbus provides airliners to most of the world’s airline companies, including a near-lock on European airline business based on its relationship with the European Union. As such, it should not be shocking that Airbus brings in 22 billion pounds of revenue per year, with thousands of orders in waiting over the next few years. Professionals interested in Airbus should be happy to see that at 55,000 employees, they are not standing pat on finding the best employees. Another major provider of aerospace technology in the United Kingdom is BAE Systems. The hard numbers for BAE Systems show that they are not only a player in Europe but a major player in the world aerospace game. BAE Systems is considered one of the top ten aerospace companies in the United States and has offices on five continents. BAE Systems employs 90,000 employees and brings in about 14 billion pounds annually in new revenues. Employee satisfaction with BAE Systems is high, with their generous benefit package including car leasing options, health care, and profit sharing. One of the more honorable jobs in the aerospace industries is with the Royal Air Force, or RAF. This organization, which provides air defense for the United Kingdom, performs search and rescue missions along with its regular defensive tasks. The RAF provides sponsorship to higher positions for exceptional professionals and the intrinsic rewards of the job are highly valued by aerospace professionals. A newer entrant into the British aerospace industry is the VT Group, which has been building warships for several decades. Over the last decade, the VT Group has expanded to cover aerospace and other transportation needs. Their 13,000 employee roster is expanding monthly to meet their burgeoning aerospace services. With 847 million pounds in revenues, VT Group is a growing member of the British aerospace industry.
