Rainbow Trout Facts That The Fish Anglers Crave

When it comes to the fish most anglers crave, it is easy to understand why they want as much in the way of rainbow trout facts as they can find. Rainbow trout has quickly become one of America's favorite fish dishes, and trout facts make it easy for the consumer that buys them in the fish market to determine whether or not they are farm raised. Tout facts are not hard to find. They can be found online, or at any parks and recreation station where fishing guidelines can be found.

Some interesting rainbow trout facts include the finding and classification of the breed in the year 1855 by a Scientist by the name of Dr. Sean Taylor Spaulding. The species was found in San Leandro Creek in Oakland California. Dr. Spaulding was the founder of the California Academy of Sciences, and upon discovering the species he named it Salmo Iridia. Other interesting facts are that they are native to the Pacific Ocean, yet can now be found in most North American rivers. Now you can find trout info as far as several parts of East Asia, and Australia.

The wildlife foundations and fishing wardens in Australia have had to give out trout data sheets to fisherman there, as the trout have become somewhat of a nuisance to other upland native fish species. Rainbow trout are in direct relation to Steelheads, and while these facts to give information regarding the trout and their direct cousin, there are still several differences that are very easily detected and are quite noticeable. While rainbow trout range in size between 12 to 18 inches, the Steelhead is considerably larger with lengths of between 20 to 40 inches. Facts on the information sheets indicate that the Steelhead can weigh as much as 22 pounds, while the trout can weigh a mere 3 pounds.

There are many trout facts that can be had from the general fish market in your area, including native habitat, spawning information, and whether or not the fish you are looking at purchasing for your next meal is a farm raised trout, or one that has been wild caught.
