As if speech writing wasn't difficult enough already, a eulogy incorporates a snapshot of the essence of a persons life in a single speech. Eulogies can include stories, jokes, quotes, poems, and memorable events about that person's life. Most eulogies include both good memories and bad ones of the person who died, but you don't have to make your eulogy gloomy and depressing if you don't want to. 1. Where To Begin? The key to writing a good eulogy is to start by considering what it is that you want to say. One other important thing to note is that you should make the eulogy as specific as possible to the deceased. 2. Decide On A Theme It doesn't matter what theme you end up using as long as it is done with the utmost of respect to both those in attendance and the dearly departed. Commonly used themes include the solemn speech, a storytelling, or a comical musing. You should base the tone of the speech to suit the personality of the person the eulogy is for - a eulogy with jokes might be appropriate for a comedian or entertainer, and mentioning a specific charity seems appropriate for persons that devoted much of their life to a specific cause. 3. Eulogies Are For Everyone Many people who write a eulogy forget that the eulogy is not just about how the person affected you, but how they affected everyone. It is important to involve the audience emotionally if you can. Try to talk to other people that knew the deceased before the funeral, and gather some stories or precious memories that they have. It's important that you represent all sides of the deceased, so that everyone can say their goodbyes. 4. Pace Your Speech Appropriately One secret to writing successful eulogies is to, conversely, make sure the eulogy meets the most basic criteria. Your eulogy should, at the very least, go over some ideas and memories about the deceased as well as presenting that information in a way that is coherent. It's okay to pause and stay silent if you are upset or feel like crying. People understand that it is a very hard thing to do. 5. Make Sure It Is Perfect When finishing up writing the eulogy you will want to ensure that your paragraphs connect in a logical fashion. It will sound odd if you are talking about something one minute and then move on to a completely different topic the next. Also, be sure to practice reading your eulogy aloud and in front of a mirror.
