Insomnia Basics





Insomnia is a very difficult condition. It not only affects the person that experiences it, but it could affect the people that closely relate to that person, their relationships, their grades, and performance at work.

You want to ensure that the ways that you try to handle insomnia do not interfere with the treatments for your other illness.

There are certain medications that may result in lack of sleep. You should read the instructions and possible side effects carefully before taking any medications in the late evening, prior to bedtime.

In order to maximize the potential for sleep, one should avoid caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine in the evening hours as all of these substances can result in sleep disturbances.

Once you have established the cause of the insomnia, you should immediately start on a resolution plan. This may include drinking water and natural juices in the evening hours, medication as prescribed by your doctor or even a change in your physical activities during the day.
