How To Ensure You Have A Healthy Pregnancy

As many women will attest, your second pregnancy will not be like your first. In truth, the way your body might react to being pregnant can be different from the way other women's bodies might react. Thus, one of the absolute best things you can do for yourself - and your baby - is to stay fit during your pregnancy.

1. Everything That Goes In Your Mouth Appears Somewhere In Your Body

As a pregnant woman you need to remember that the food you put in your mouth will feed your baby, so you must ensure that what you eat is going to give the baby the essential nutrients it needs to grow. This means taking supplements such as folic acid, especially during the first weeks of pregnancy - and even before!

2. Never Diet

If you are overweight, dieting whilst pregnant is not a good idea. Your body needs extreme amounts of additional energy during pregnancy than it did before so starving yourself in order to not gain weight is the worst thing you can do for your baby. If you like, you can simply eat more healthier food choices and still feel full.

3. Exercise Regularly

- A regular exercise program should be part of a healthy pregnancy
- Keeping your body in shape whilst the baby grows helps to regain your shape quicker after the pregnancy
- Learn relaxation and stretching exercises as these will be essential during labor
- Regular exercise will help with mood swings and stress
- Be careful however, always consult with your medical practitioner before starting a new exercise program

4. Avoid toxins and drugs

- Obviously smoking and alcohols are no no's
- Limit caffeine intake... if you can't give up coffee and coke, then switch to the caffeine free varieties
- Certain fish need to be avoided because of their high mercury content

5. Take time out for yourself

When you feel tired take a nap, when you're emotion kick in and you feel like you are going crazy, take some time for yourself. Your body is going through big changes it's important to listen to your body and not push yourself.

6. Take pre-natal classes

Taking pre-natal classes will teach you everything you need to know about the birthing process and taking care of your new born. Pre-natal classes will help you decrease any pregnancy anxiety you may be feeling. Often you can find pre natal classes at your local recreation center. Simply ask your medical practitioner and they will either recommend a pre natal class or point you in the right direction on where you can find them.
