There is an abundance of art schools providing uniquely qualified educations in various disciplines. Some provide a bouquet of art subjects under one roof. A few others offer specialized kinds of courses. Culinary school comes under the specialized kind. A culinary school can be defined as a school of cookery or relating to a kitchen or to cookery. There are a number of synonyms for culinary. A few of them can be delicious, savory, digestible, scrumptious, wholesome, etc. These schools award degrees after the completion of training and then the degree holders are eligible for finding a job in a restaurant or a hotel. Oftentimes, a public restaurant is linked to a culinary school where the students are able to get a real life training to perform various roles. The courses in such schools have different programs ranging from a couple of weeks to a full course of 5 years. There can be the following types of culinary schools: 1. Renowned culinary schools present courses where students can opt for specialization. Such schools offering specialization are called specialized culinary schools. These kinds of schools are totally dedicated into culinary arts and science only. 2. Schools that intend to impart variety education in a number of other art disciplines are known as career schools. Most of these include the culinary arts too. 3. Some of the universities or schools list culinary art or science as a major or minor specialization while offering a graduate program. These are traditional schools or universities. 4. There are a number of other organizations that provides culinary art certificates (not affiliated to any school or university) after successful completion of training, according to their norms. Selecting the right culinary school for you. This is a critical issue, not to be ignored. Some of the more important factors affecting the choice of culinary schools are rank or repute, location, curriculum, accreditation, facilities in the premises, fees, etc. The American Culinary Federation gives accreditation to such schools that are providing better opportunities to their students in terms of infrastructure, faculty, placement, etc. This body of accreditation inspects the schools from time to time for quality too. If a school has this certificate then one can assume this school to be reputed. History of placements of ex-students is another factor that helps in choosing a school. The location of the school is also a very important consideration for students. If it is very far from residence then it is not the right choice. Time is wasted in traveling. Costs also have various terms they fall under and that should be properly understood, such as the tuition fees, use of equipment, boarding (if necessary), stationery, books, and more. The facilities provided to the students should also be very well judged like the faculty, classrooms, kitchen and kitchen equipments, books and library facilities, etc. There are three types of culinary arts or science programs: 1. A full-time degree that is the most exhaustive and dedicated program. 2. A short duration intensive program, generally a year's program. 3. A specialized program where the knowledge in details about a specific thing would be provided, for e.g., the green vegetables. If you find that a school is not among the above categories, then choosing that school might not be beneficial for you. Also, it depends on you taking into consideration your life's goals and the readiness to undergo the severity of such an intense program. Afterall, an intense, laborious program is going to pay rich dividends later on, but it's going to take your time, effort and money to get through the program. In the end, it will be worth it.
