Ductless Air Conditioners

You might have given up the idea of having a central air conditioning system because your house simply doesn't have the provision for you to install the dusts necessary for a central air conditioning system. But the good news is that we can have ductless air conditioning these days which is as good as the central air conditioning system. In fact though new to North America, this type of air conditioning has been quite popular in Japan and other countries for some years now. It is very common in multifamily housing. The ductless air conditioners can be used for various residential and commercial applications.

The ductless air conditioners are more or less similar to the conventional window air conditioners. You have to install them through a wall or a window frame. However, they do have two key components that are related to the central air conditioning systems: the outdoor unit of the ductless air conditioner has the compressor and the indoor unit which handles the air contains an evaporator and a fan. Some of these ductless air conditioners actually serve you through all seasons, helping you to maintain lower temperatures during summers and higher during winters.

The indoor and outdoor units of a ductless air conditioner are linked with a conduit. Within the conduit is the power cable, refrigerant tubing, suction tubing, and condensate drain. While the compressor which creates a whole lot of noise is in the outdoor unit, the quieter parts of the air conditioner - the fan and the evaporator are in the indoor unit.

There are however few problems with the ductless air conditioning system. The basic problem is that of installation. You must have enough space outside your home to have the outdoor unit installed. This is a considerably a large unit, larger than the regular window air conditioner. So the space required is also significantly more.

Even if you do have the space, there is also the issue of aesthetics. A large unit jutting out of your wall or window doesn't quite look good. If you plan to install a ductless air conditioner in your new house, make sure you design your house accordingly.

The ductless air conditioner uses the advantages of both the room unit and the central air conditioning to provide you an option which you otherwise didn't have. But there are a few problems that also come along with it. It is up to you now to weigh both the options and decide which to go for.
