There was a time that the only way to know the story from beginning to end will be by reading a book. In the 1980s, this changed as some publishing companies have decided to produce audio versions for people to listen to instead. Due to its initial success, books on other topics have also been made as well. These are also available in compact disc, which are much clearer compared to those heard on a tape. The Internet revolution has added something new to audio books. Instead of buying it at the store, this can now be downloaded in the computer. Downloadable versions are also known as digital audio books. This is because each recording is crystal clear which can be played in the computer, in an Ipod or burned into a CD. A little fee will also have to be paid since not all sites that offer audio books are free. The downloadable audio book is very useful for everyone. Students in school may find listening much better than reading the text. People who need self help or learn something new will also be able to do this without straining the eyes forcing one to stop and continue again later. The only thing for the person to do now is use the various search engines to find that specific recording. Most sites have a sample recording, which will make sure that this, the right one that the individual is looking for. Those who don't have a computer can go to an Internet cafe or the public library to listen to it. Is the downloadable audio book the same as flipping through the pages? This depends on the version available. If this is unabridged, then nothing is edited out and every word written down will be mentioned. Should this be abridged, there will be some changes but more or less will deliver the same message. Those who love stories but do not have the time to read will greatly appreciate the dramatized audio book. This is because different people play the characters. It will also have music and sound effects, which makes the experience just like watching it in the theatre. The downloadable audio book doesn't replace reading as a way to keep the mind in shape. It merely gives people an alternative way to acquire knowledge especially for those who find it quite difficult when there are other priorities that need to be done first.
