If you and your dermatologist determine that you have severe acne scarring it will probably require surgery but surgery for acne scarring is usually done on the underlying skin so you will not have any stitches or visible marks. Acne scarring that has left you with discoloration of the skin is the easiest to treat and can be treated with over the counter lotion or gels. When you and your dermatologist determine that you have discoloration you will then be able to discuss the kind of lotion or gels that are available and the one that are the safest because you already have a problem that is understandably very hard on a person self esteem and you do not want to use a product that may cause you to have some other kind of problem. Acne scarring may look like it has left you with unsightly scarring that you will have to deal with for a lifetime. But you should not be disheartened because there are plenty of treatments from surgery to lotions so that you can have beautiful, clear skin that you will love and can be proud of.
